New Jersey American Water Invests $7.4 Million in Monmouth County Infrastructure

CAMDEN, N.J. – MARCH 31, 2023 – New Jersey American Water will replace approximately 800 feet of aging water transmission main along the border of Red Bank, Shrewsbury, and Little Silver starting this week. The company will upgrade the aging 36-inch cast iron water line that was installed in the 1920s with new 36-inch ductile iron main along Newman Springs Road from about 6 Newman Springs Road to Broad Street, beneath the New Jersey Transit railway tracks, and along Rumson Place from Broad Street to West Lake Road.

This $7.4 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.

New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor, J. F. Creamer & son, Inc. began construction this week and expects to be completed within approximately two months, weather permitting. Work on Rumson Place will take place during normal daytime hours with some night work expected to maintain the project schedule. Work on Newman Springs Road (County Road 520) will take place at night due to the Monmouth County ordinance. Tentative work schedules, detour information, and changes in work hours will be posted on the company’s website for the duration of the project. Final street restorations will be completed in the fall of 2023.

Project timelines are subject to change due to a variety of factors including weather and availability of supplies. New Jersey American Water encourages customers to sign up and opt-in for alerts through their MyWater account and visit the Alerts page on its website for periodic updates throughout the project.

For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
