Pennsylvania American Water Announces $900K Amity Township System Upgrade

Main replacements in Amity Township will improve water service for customers

Amity, Pa. (April 7, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of construction to replace a third of a mile of water main in Amity Township, Berks County, to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flows for firefighting.  This $900,000 project is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 10, where crews will be replacing 1,900 feet of aging 6-inch cast iron pipe that was installed in the 1950s with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe and new copper service lines.

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction on Glenwood Drive between Magnolia Drive and Russell Avenue and on Aspen Circle between Glenwood Drive and the cul-de-sac. The company expects to complete the water main installation by the end of July, with final street restoration taking place in fall 2023.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and/or lower than normal water pressure. If Pennsylvania American Water discovers lead service lines during the course of this project, customers will be contacted directly to discuss remediation through the company’s Lead Service Line Replacement Program.
