News & Community
Building strong communities is hard work and one of the most important things we do. We're dedicated to helping our communities be more vibrant places to live, work, and play, and hope to earn their support by being involved and concerned corporate citizens.
Community Donations
As a company, we work with community-based partners throughout our service areas to positively impact the overall quality of life where our employees and neighbors live and work. It takes more than a one-time grant or volunteer effort to make a lasting difference, so we seek out and support organizations that understand how to best meet the needs of the community. We offer general charitable contributions for community events, activities and organizations that focus on water and the environment, water and healthy living, environmental education, and community sustainability. Click here for more information.
For more information, we invite you to review West Virginia American Water community giving guidelines and fill out the West Virginia American Water grant application form. Please be advised that our community giving is focused toward organizations that are located within or benefit customers in our service areas.

Grants And Creativity Opportunities
As a company, we believe that by working together, we can build a better world. West Virginia American Water contributes more than $200,000 each year to community events, activities and organizations that benefit the growth, sustainability and protection of our service area. We look for opportunities to give back, especially in these areas of community investment focus:
- Water and the Environment:
Innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect our watersheds and our communities’ surface and groundwater. - Water and Healthy Living:
Efforts that contribute to healthy communities by promoting access to safe water and sanitation, educating customers on the health benefits of water and encouraging good hygiene practices. - Environmental Education:
Educational programs which provide information about water conservation, water and wastewater treatment, the water cycle, watershed protection and the environment. - Community Sustainability:
Projects that meet a definitive, sustainable community need, preferably aligned with American Water’s core business, and which enrich the lives of the residents who live and work in the communities we serve.
