Response To COVID-19

Since March 2020, the American Water Charitable Foundation has provided over $350,000 in grants to 85 public charities focused on COVID-19 relief and recovery efforts.

In partnership with American Water, on March 20, we announced a $100,000 donation to Feeding America to help food banks across the country support individuals and families impacted by the coronavirus. Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, provides food and services to more than 46 million people each year.

In April 2020, the Foundation launched a new COVID-19 Response Fund to support relief efforts in communities served by American Water.

To ensure grants were meaningful and impactful, the Foundation relied on American Water state-based locations for expertise in identifying and bringing forth 501(c)(3) applicants for consideration.

The grant cycle continued for eight weeks and concluded May 29. Should additional funding become available, prior applicants will be considered first, followed by outreach conducted by American Water state-based operations.
